The Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Sciences is a 4 year (8 semesters) program that gives you hands-on skills to become a medical laboratory scientist.

The provision of quality and evidence-based healthcare services is often not easily achievable in healthcare systems in the absence of an efficient medical diagnostic system like a medical laboratory which involves in obtaining and process specimens from patients to aid diagnosis and monitor care and treatment. Laboratory tests are extremely valuable and contribute up to 70% of all medical decisions made by healthcare providers. The growing need of these services in most health care facilities has resulted in shortage of professionals/scientist.

The Medical Laboratory Science programme at EMCU is designed to develop knowledge, technical skills and professional attributes that prepares students for the exciting, challenging, and dynamic careers in places such as hospital laboratories and clinics, forensic laboratories and industrial research laboratories. Professionals in this field are in high demand with excellent prospects for growth.

This professional degree enables students to apply principles and techniques in the routine and specialized analysis of biological specimens and other substances as well as integrate laboratory tests and results with pathophysiological conditions and conduct supervised research.

Graduates from the Medical Laboratory Science program at EMCU are able to perform the full range of clinical laboratory tests in the diagnostic areas appropriate with competency to perform testing encompassing pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical components of laboratory services, including clinical biochemistry, medical microbiology (bacteriology, parasitology, virology and mycology), hematology, immunology, cellular pathology, molecular diagnostics, Medical genetics, phlebotomy, blood transfusion, quality control and assurance. The medical laboratory scientist is an evidence-based solution provider who uses both manual and automated techniques to provide diagnostic assistance to physicians and other professionals.

It is our desire to prepare students who demonstrate professional behavior and the technical skills necessary for entry-level Medical Laboratory Scientist with the long-term purpose to exhibit a positive impact on the health-diagnostic status of the community through service.
